The absolute best way for everyone involved, is for the parents to work together to come up with a parenting time schedule that allows for both parents to have meaningful time with their child. In addition, special attention should be paid to whether the parenting time schedule will be in the child’s best interests. Parents should take care to remember their child is also dealing with their parent’s separation, and making a child yo-yo back and forth between parents too many times a week, may take an emotional toll on the child, and may be disruptive to the child’s routine school schedule. If the parties are unable to come to a mutual agreement on a parenting schedule, they must seek the intervention of the court to decide the parenting time schedule that is in the child’s best interests.
